Witness nature’s spectacle during Tanzania’s calving season in February
Every February, the southern plains of the Serengeti transform into nature’s nursery when approximately 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily during the peak of the calving season. This remarkable period provides exceptional opportunities for witnessing both new life and the dramatic predator interactions that accompany it. The SkySafari Tanzania 8-day and 10-day itineraries, along with the East Africa itinerary, offer guests accommodation at Serengeti Pioneer Camp, ideally located for observing this extraordinary natural phenomenon while maximizing time in the bush thanks to our private flight transfers.
Sustainable Sky
Every Departure with SkySafari helps local conservation and community initiatives
Every SkySafari booking makes a difference through a variety of initiatives that give back to local community and conservation programmes. Donations from bed nights at all the Elewana properties are made to Elewana’s charitable arm, The Land & Life Foundation which in turn, are invested back into local projects. A few examples of recent success stories include building a much-needed new community borehole in Amboseli and providing new desks and a classroom refresh to the Ura Gate primary school in Meru.
Guests on the Kenya SkySafari itineraries visiting Loisaba can pride themselves in knowing that the conservancy fees they pay are re-invested into protecting the wildlife in the region. The success of the conservancy model was brought to the forefront this year as 21 black rhinos were relocated to the Loisaba Conservancy. This is the first time rhino have roamed this area since the last one was poached over 50 years ago. The new population is thriving, and they have just welcomed the first calf named Valentine.
All guests departing on the Tanzania SkySafari have the opportunity to support the incredible social enterprise, Shanga, located in the grounds of the Arusha Coffee Lodge. The workshop employs local residents who have disabilities and teaches them to create beautiful items including hand blown glassware, textiles, place settings and other decorative homeware and clothing items, as well as handmade jewellery, and more.
There are many more initiatives at individual properties that guests can choose to get involved with as they travel with SkySafari. Please ask for details on what is available at the when booking.
SkySafari also partners with Carbon Tanzania which allows guests to actively support initiatives that safeguard East Africa’s ecosystems and cultural heritage for future generations. Through purchasing high-quality carbon credits, guests directly support various initiatives such as protecting vital forest habitat, supporting local indigenous communities, funding local education, healthcare, and the employment of locals who help to maintain critical ecosystems.
