We spoke with SkySafari’s General Manager, Michel Allard, this month on the merits of SkySafari for single travellers.

Could you summarise why is SkySafari such a good option for single travellers

I think the advantage for solo traveller and groups of individual friends alike is that at SkySafari, we don’t specifically design our journeys around any particular type of traveller, we look at the individual. We pride ourselves on the personal touch, and we make sure every guest has the most unforgettable safari experience by ensuring their needs are met. The fact that every aspect of the trip has been meticulously arranged so there is nothing to worry about is also a huge plus point.

For our solo travellers, if you want to keep yourself to yourself, no problem. If you relish the chance to mingle with like-minded people, that’s fine too. Your SkySafari can be as sociable or solitary as you choose. We provide the opulence and the activities, the smooth logistics and the little extras. But you can decide how much time you want to spend with the group.

Plus, our great pricing structure means you won’t be financially penalised for going it alone on your unforgettable luxury African Safari.

Tell us a little about the policy on single supplements

We don’t believe in punishing solo travellers, so we don’t charge a single room supplement for the first single room per booking. That means if you’re travelling alone, you pay the same rate per person as someone travelling with a partner, you get your own space at no extra cost. If you’re travelling with a friend, but the two of you want separate rooms, only one of you has to pay the higher single-room rate, the other travels supplement free, or you could share the cost, brining that supplement down. However, with the current solo travel offer, up to three friends can travel together, each with their own room and there will be no single supplement.

And, of course, a lower cost never means a lesser experience. You’ll have the same exquisite suites, sweeping views, ice-cool sundowners and spectacular wildlife encounters. Just without paying extra for it.

What is on offer in camp for single travellers

There are moments alone in these landscapes that can be life-changing: sitting quiet and apart on a rock-top at sunset, watching the sunrise from your private terrace, laying back under a billion stars. The intimate camps we use are warm and inclusive, the camaraderie of cocktails around the campfire, discussing the animal action, feels like a casual party to which all are welcome.
